How Can severe Ovarian Pain Be Treated?

Hi, In Augest I had an ovarian cyst. It went away I think and now I m haveing pain in both of my ovaries again. The right one is hurting more then the left one and even feels swollen, the right one is the one that I had the cyst in before. Do you think it went away and came back or has it always been there?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,
Thank you for your query.

Yes it is possible for the cyst to persist but it is unlikely for a simple ovarian cyst to persist beyond 2-3 months.
It is more likely that another cyst has developed.
Based on your symptoms, I would like to rule out Endometriosis.

I recommend :
-an OBGYN consult
-an ultrasound abdomen to check for cysts and it's size
-blood tests (complete blood count, estrogen and progesterone levels, Leutinizing hormone and follicle stimulating hormone levels, androgen levels)
-explorative laparoscopy (if clinically indicated). This helps to visualize the extent of the cyst, it's type and if necessary can reduce its size and take a biopsy.
Based on this treatment can be initiated.

Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is anything else I can help you with.
Wish you good health
